This month I’ve been working with graphic designers, web developers and marketers to advise me on a website I’m building for a new business venture. Nothing too complicated just a few static pages to start and a JavaScript contact form. Later I will add a database and make it more dynamic but even with this simple project I’ve encountered many hurdles that have stopped me taking the project forward and really my eye off the end goal and thus my focus has been taken away with the most important reason for the website.

“To get people to the site, provide value and make a sale.”

This got me thinking about how to get more people to your website and ultimately more unique visitors and sales.

So first off we want to be at the top of the search engine results to do this you will want to work on the SEO the old way to do with was to write long articles and pump it with keywords. This won’t work anymore so find owners of blogs and share content and get other sites to link to yours.

Now you’re getting out there sharing content on other sites you should connect with industry influencers. These people have huge followings and a mention from them can send thousands of people to your site and grow your own social media following. This leads me onto your social media accounts you should create them straight away and start using them to share content. This will help push you to the top of the Google results and best of all its free. Now you are creating content and working with others in your industry you need become an expert. Remember to provide value in what you share.

These tips alone won’t convert your visitors into customers but it’s a step in the right direction and in many cases a way you can communicate with your customers. Also remember that you should test what works for you as what works for one person won’t necessarily work for the next.
